As we come to chapter 9, it might seem that Paul has temporarily dropped the topic of meat offered to idols. In reality, Paul has not drifted off topic, he is simply addressing the same general topic from a different angle. This text marks the beginning of Paul’s argument for sacrificing personal liberty for the gain of other Christians by pointing the apostolic privileges he has sacrificed for the advancement of the gospel.
