Often, the filling of the Spirit is erroneously identified with the baptism of the Spirit. The consequence of this false identification is that believers are pressured into speaking in tongues to prove that they are Spirit-filled (since charismatics incorrectly think that the baptism of the Spirit is normally attested by speaking in tongues). In this passage, Paul clarifies the nature of Spirit-filling, and shows that its consequence and fruit is living a godly life, not speaking in tongues.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit is often incorrectly identified as a second spiritual blessing, authenticated by speaking tongues, which comes upon Christians who urgently seek it through prayer and moral preparation. This understanding is thoroughly unbiblical, and this sermon exposes some of the proponents of this position along with the errors in their argument, and makes the case from scripture, that all Christians are baptized by the Spirit in their regeneration and conversion.
