Let’s face it–Christian churches seem to attract more than their share of people who lack basic social graces. We must give more effort to cultivate our social skills in obedience to Christ’s command “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Very humbling. This topic is not often discussed. Good choice. I like how you related controlling your tongue and listening to others directly to the command of “Loving your neighbor as yourself”.

This is a nice guide to learning conversation skills as a Christian duty. Using Scripture references from Proverbs and Paul’s letters, the pastors warn against incessant talking or babbling which drive others away instead of edifying them. Being observant, preparing by serious study, listening to others, and taking the focus off oneself are examples of the skills discussed here. One can have these skills without ever having read the Bible, but it’s good to see from Scripture how God wants to teach them to His people to preserve them from speaking idle words which bring condemnation.
