Christians will naturally cry out to God for help in times of trouble. But often there seems to be no help — at least in terms that Christians might expect. Psalm 3 is all about the king crying out for help and receiving it but in God’s terms. As the king looked back and remembered that Yahweh had helped him before so he found confidence in this time of real trouble. Christians today must look back to the help they have already received at the cross in order to find comfort in the midst of present trouble. Psalm 3, then, provides an example of what to do in times of trouble and actual words to use during those times.
