Because of the nature of the Mosaic Covenant Israel lived under God’s threat. In fact Paul calls this covenant a “covenant of death and condemnation.” This is why Paul also compares and contrasts the Mosaic Covenant with the New Covenant, which has greater glory. For those in Christ in the New Covenant there is no more threat.

Thanks for this message. I find myself in greater agreement with your understanding of the Mosaic Covenant than most that I’ve heard. I am a member of the OPC; I love my church, but find myself in strong disagreement with most of their understanding of the covenant of work and grace issues. However, there are no URC churches in this area. Thanks so much for the work that you are doing.
