How do Christian parents handle the death of their infant? The Canons of Dort, summarizing the Scriptures, make it clear that parents “ought not to doubt the election and salvation of their children whom it pleases God to call out of this life in their infancy.” This sermon will also address how Christian parents should view their children before they profess faith: they are still Christians because they are in the Covenant of Grace. We distinguish, however; all children of Christian parents are in the Covenant externally but not necessarily internally. That means that their election and salvation are not infallible – this is left to God’s hidden decree.
