We can’t figure out why people who know their leaders and churches are adding to the law tolerate that nonsense (case in point: the Southern Baptist convention’s ruling on consumption of alcohol). The roots of legalism are easy enough to trace and evil enough to ruin souls.

A Substitute
We know from the Law of God that we are all guilty, and our guilt must be paid for. The wonder of the Gospel is that God will have a substitute pay for our sins, instead of requiring the payment from us. Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 5 Exodus 20:5; 23:7; Psalm 130:3; Ezekiel 18:4,20 1Corinthians […]
Given over for Destruction
All men know God and suppress this knowledge to their own condemnation. The sins we commit are actually God’s judgment working in us to our own destruction. The homosexual and the gossip are both equally worthy of destruction. Sermon Text: Romans 1:24-32 Old Testament Supporting Text: Genesis 11:1-9; Isaiah 44:9-11

Greed and the Gospel
Luke 12:13-2. The parable of the rich fool demonstrates the folly of greed of which all people are guilty. Jesus worked to give His people eternal life, which left Him poor and alone at the cross. The result, however, was that His people were freed from the tyranny of greed and to a life of […]
The Unjust Manager
In Luke 16, Jesus uses an odd story to teach His disciples to understand and use their money in a way unlike the self-righteous, immoral Pharisees. Of course, He needs to tell His disciples (us) this because they (we) are strongly tempted to think and act like His enemies.
