We are justified by faith alone, and not by some combination of faith and works. Paul shows us that the preeminent Jew, Abraham, the father of the Jewish nation, was reckoned righteous, not by any works, but by faith alone. This faith receives and embraces the great promise, that God himself will take our deserved curse and punishment on Himself, and give us life from the dead.
