God makes it very clear that the Law is powerless to help us obey and be right with him. Foolishly, most people still try to be good so that they may impress God and earn reward. Jesus declares that as Lord of the Sabbath, he has the power to bring the true rest which the old ordinances only showed in a shadowy form. This hope of peace with God and restoration to fellowship, is his work as the Suffering Servant, and is the hope, not only of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles.
Sermon Text: Matthew 12:1-21
